A Fifth Weapon for a Cancer That Keeps Evolving

The FDA approved Jideytro (zidesamtinib), a targeted pill for ROS1-positive lung cancer patients whose tumors have already outsmarted prior drugs. In 117 previously treated patients, 44% saw meaningful tumor shrinkage, and 78% of responders were still going strong at one year. The brain data might be the headline: a 48% intracranial response rate in previously treated patients. GSK, which acquired developer Nuvalent, plans to seek a first-line label expansion later this year after the drug posted an 89% response rate in untreated patients.

Why it matters: ROS1-positive NSCLC hits only 1-2% of lung cancer patients, but in a decade they've gone from zero targeted options to five. Jideytro fills a critical gap for patients who've run out of alternatives, and a first-line expansion could reshape treatment sequencing entirely.
